The Clemency of Titus at the Palais Garnier

Mozart wrote his last opera in a few weeks, for a coronation: at the Palais Garnier, an emperor betrayed by his best friend chooses to forgive.

1

Composed hastily in 1791 for the coronation of Leopold II in Prague, La Clemenza di Tito marks the end of Mozart's life, who died on December 5 of the same year. Willy Decker directed the production, Harry Bicket conducted. Emily D'Angelo sang Sesto, the trouser role that carries the entire drama, opposite Pavol Breslik's Titus. An opera about the cost of forgiveness when one reigns.
