KUPFERSTICHKABINETT

The Berlin Kupferstichkabinett is exhibiting its Flemish treasures for the first time in fifty years: more than one hundred drawings by twenty-eight artists, with Rubens, Jordaens, and Van Dyck taking center stage.

More than one hundred drawings by twenty-eight artists, created between 1570 and 1650, featuring Rubens, Jordaens, and Van Dyck. Rarely conceived for their own sake, these sheets—sketches of ideas, studies of figures, tapestry designs—reveal the creative gesture in its nascent stages. From sacred scenes to portraits, from landscapes to still lifes, they convey the vitality of Antwerp, the artistic capital of the Baroque, captured in its most intimate detail.
