The Great Drama Exhibition, Rodin at the Albertinum in Dresden
ALBERTINUM
From October 31, 2026 to August 22, 2027
The Albertinum in Dresden is reopening the case of Auguste Rodin's Balzac, rejected by its patrons in 1898 and which has since become the birth certificate of modern sculpture.
"A shapeless mass," said the Société des Gens de Lettres at the time, "a man in a dressing gown without hands or feet." Auguste Rodin is now considered the father of modern sculpture, but each of his works earned him a challenge to his legitimacy during his lifetime, and the question was always the same: at what point does an unfinished thing become a work of art? The exhibition runs for nearly ten months.
