Hurlevent, by Maëlle Dequiedt, at the Théâtre de la Bastille

Maëlle Dequiedt reopens Wuthering Heights and finds in it less a passion than a story of class: at the Théâtre de la Bastille, the moors are a battlefield.

1

Emily Brontë only wrote one novel; Maëlle Dequiedt and the collective La Phenomena have drawn from it a show that rejects postcard romanticism. A child taken in and then belittled, a betrayed childhood, a revenge that spans two generations: social violence drives everything, and the moors are no longer a backdrop but a battleground. With Youssouf Abi-Ayad, Sacha Starck and Émilie Incerti Formentini.
