Seven Tears for Elisabeth, by Aurélien Bory, at the Cité de la Musique

Aurélien Bory constructs a flowing space, because tears flow: just two nights at the Cité de la Musique for John Dowland's seven pavanes.

1

John Dowland's Lachrimae, seven pavanes written at the court of Elizabeth I to express melancholy, become the foundation for a dialogue between Thibaut Garcia's guitar and Aure Wachter's singing body. Aurélien Bory does what he always does: he gives the stage its own physicality and lets the performers grapple with it. One hour, two nights.
